is aptly the industrial city of Rajasthan and does not offer much tourist
experience except for its huge city palace complex and Kishore Sagar Lake.
But the city is the ideal base to visit the largely unexplored Hadauti
region of which it is a part.
The region around Kota is a virtual
treasure of ancient and historic relics, sculptures and antiquities.
Barely 56kms away from Kota is Baroli where the remains of Ghateshvara
temple, an ancient temple complex built in classical Hindu style are
located. Quite near Baroli is Bhensrorgarh fort perched on a high ground
overlooking the river Chambal. The impressive fort was never taken over.
Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary, 50kms from Kota, is a dense forest with varied
flora and fauna. The National Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary is specially known
for gharials. The Sorsan grasslands, 50kms from Kota, is a haven for
domestic and migratory birds including the endangered Great Indian Bustard.
