ajasthan
is the home to a large number of tribal groups. Some of the districts like
Banswara, Dungarpur and Sirohi have an overwhelming number of tribal
populations. Their stories of origins are traced to the ages of Mahabharata
or even older. Some are aboriginal tribes and some have migrated a long time
back from other regions. The government accords them a special status to
care and honor their distinct and unique cultures
Tribal lifestyle is clearly distinct from others. Like in Garasias, they
have a unique system of marrying through elopement. Although all of these
are believers in the Hindu way of life, yet their deities are different.

Often
their beliefs range from super-humans to supernatural. Colorful costumes,
interesting customs, unique agricultural practices, social structure, music,
dance and weddings of the tribes are well worth a study.
In
Rajasthan, these tribal-dominated regions are located in the most
picturesque areas.
Major tribal groups include Bhils, Meenas, Garasiyas, Sahariyas and Raikas.
Popular mode to visit the tribal region is through treks (Day long to
several days long) or through horse safaris. There are many good jungle
lodges of former royal families, which serve as good stopovers.
